Fall Hydrant Flushing to take place 10/23- 11/3

Lindenhurst Public Works will conduct its water main/hydrant-flushing program from October 23rd through November 3rd. Water main/hydrant flushing activities will be conducted during the day from 8:00 a.m. through 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Fall 2023 program should last approximately two weeks. Hydrant flushing is designed to clean the lines, which prevents possible problems in the future. Additionally, this program will remove accumulated sediments and minerals from the water pipes through flushing. During this time, customers may notice episodes of decreased water pressure or discoloration of their water; this is expected and temporary, and should subside once flushing is complete. Water discoloration results from temporary disturbances of the normal water flow within our piping network. These short-term changes in flow can stir up naturally occurring minerals and sediment that settle within the water mains. 

If water discoloration occurs, residents should run their cold water faucets until the water appears clear. If you live near the target flushing areas, Public Works recommends refraining from clothes washing during daily flushing hours.
